Bible study on Romans – Chapter 13

Dear brothers and sisters,

In this bible study on the 13th chapter on the book of Romans we will go through this chapter as following:

  • Submission to governing authorities
  • Love fullfills the law
  • The day is near

Submissions to gouerning authorities

How easy is it to complain about any gouverning authority in your life like the government. I will fully agree with you that there are enough reasons to go against them. However, God tells us that this is not allowed. All governing authorities are established by God and rebelling against such an authority will be viewed by God as rebelling against Him. Just like with Saul we asked for a king back in the days of the Bible. Back than He already warned us through Samuel that we did not need it, but we insisted. Therefore is is important that you always pray for all governing bodies that they are blessed and lead by God. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t believe that God wants us to accept any wrongdoing by a government, just like in the time of Hitler. But when it comes to paying your taxes, than you are obliged by God to pay those taxes. Remember you are actually submitting yourself to God in this situation and He will bless you for your obedience.

Love fulfills the Law

If you want to fulfill God’s law than you need to love one another. Love is so powerful and that is also why God’s love is the most powerful thing in our life! Also, God’s wants us to have no debts in our life other than loving one another. So make sure to not to get in a position of having any debt. Ask God to help you out of any debt. We also should not choose to pledge anything to another person, which can cause us to be in debt of honoring that pledge, while we are unable to do so.

What God also makes very clear that the commandments as we know them come down to love your neighbour as yourself. Why? Because loving someone has never hurt anyone. And by doing so you will also fulfill God’s law!

The day is near

This is very important to realize. Yes, we do not know when the end of time is near, but it will be sooner than we can realize. But God emphasizes this, because if we realize that time is near and salvation is also near, than it should make us even more determined to do good. Because e.g. you have a fight with someone. Will you have enough time to make peace with that person? Do you want to run the risk of dying, before you corrected a bad situation in your life? So, please life a life that gives God honor. Because is it not better, than to clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh?

Daily devotional for 27 September 2017 – Romans 13:8-9

Dear brothers and sisters,

Today I want to meditate with you on the words from Romans 13:8-9 (NIV):

Love Fulfills the Law

8 Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. 9 The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

These verses tell us a very important part of God’s commandments for us: love! When we analyze the commandments of God, than we see that they all come down to love your neighbour as yourself. Why? If you don’t than you are building hate and negativity in the heart of others. And how do you expect to be loved by God, if you are not even willing to give love to another person?

Daily devotional for 5 August 2017 – Ephesians 5:1-2

Dear brothers and sisters,

Today I want to encourage you with the words from Ephesians 5:1-2 (NIV):

1 Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children 2 and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

God makes it so very clear how important love for Him, for others and even ourselves is. Love is not something you can overlook. No, it is something that is so important. We cannot go through life without the love of God. But also not even without loving ourselves. I pray that God breaks everything out of our lifes that will try and distort our love for ourselves, others and You.
