Bible study

Dear brothers and sisters,

Today we will be talking about Chapter 3 of the Gospel of Luke. Welcome to this new Bible study serie in which we will undergo a journey through the Gospel of Luke.

This chapter tells the following stories:

  • John the Baptist prepares the way
  • The Baptism and Genealogy of Jesus

John the Baptist prepares the way

An important part of this story is the fact that JBap was living in the desert for a long time, before his ministry started. This shows that we should never think that if God doesn’t call us at this moment for His ministry, that we are not called at all. At the contrary, God has already decided the exact moment that He will call you for your work in His ministry. It is therefore very important that you keep praising God and continue to grow as a Christian to prepare yourself for that moment that your work for God will start.

As soon as God told Him to start his ministry, JBap immediately went to work. For us it is also important not to stall, but to carry out everything that comes on our path immediately. But make sure that you are lead by the Holy Ghost. This is not only for the work we will do for God, but for everything.

JBap told everyone not to rely on the fact that we are children of Abraham and that for that reason we are saved. No, we need to come before God and ask repentance for all our sins. Also, we need to be close to God to enable ourselves to go to Heaven through faith and not through our works (or lineage).

Furthermore, JBap tells us that we need to do good to others. If you have something that you don’t need, but someone else does, than always be willing to help another person with it. Also, make sure that you do good. Don’t extort or mistreat or abuse others. If you really want to go to heaven, than you should love and be willing to do good to others and let your actions be according to Gods will.

At the end of this story we also see that if we follow God, than some people will become our enemies. But never let any hostility from people make you afraid to do Gods work. If you have to die to follow God, than you should also be ready and willing to do so. And know that God will reward you for this!

Something very important we can learn from JBap is his humbleness. With the attention he got it would have been very easy to get arrogant and to allow yourself to become very influential and important. But not JBap, he knew very well why he was on earth: to prepare the way for Jesus! We should be eager to have the same humbleness as JBap.

The baptism of Jesus

Before Jesus (at the age of 30) started His ministry, God made sure that He was first baptized. JBap was sent before Jesus to prepare the crowds for His coming. But also to baptise Jesus in the name of God. If we want to work for God, then we need to be baptized. If you are not already baptized than I urge you to become part of a God-fearing church were you can be baptized. By being baptized God will also let the Holy Ghost become your guidance, and this guidance is vital if we want to follow God!

Again we see how important Luke finds it to be thourough! He list the full genealogy from Abraham to Jesus. This is to make sure that we, as readers of his gospel, are aware of the fact that Jesus was not just a man. No, God made sure that He was from the lineage of Abraham. This also shows that God already has planned everything even before we were even born. God has a plan for your life, so let God carry out His plan in your life!

God bless you all!

Daily encouraging word

Daily word for 3 October 2014

Dear brothers and sisters,

Today I want to encourage you with the words from Hosea 14:9, which says:

9 Who is wise? He will realize these things. Who is discerning? He will understand them. The ways of the LORD are right; the righteous walk in them, but the rebellious stumble in them.

This verse shows how important it is to not be rebellious to God, but to trust on Him and walk in the ways of the Lord. God will bless your life if you set yourself open to follow Him!

Daily word 1 October 2014 – Romans 15:1-3

Daily encouraging word

Daily word for 1 October 2014

Dear brothers and sisters,

Today I want to encourage you with the words from Romans 15:1-3, which says:

1 We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. 2Each of us should please his neighbor for his good, to build him up. 3 For even Christ did not please himself but, as it is written: “The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.”

As Christians we need to always put our own desires after helping out someone near you. Jesus showed this to die for us on the cross and by following this example of serving others, then you will see how this will not only bless the other person, but also your own life! God bless you all!

Daily word 21 September 2014 – Habakuk 3:17-19

Daily word for 21 September 2014

Dear brothers and sisters,

Today I want to encourage you with the words from Habakuk 3:17-19, which says:

17 Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, 18 yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior. 19 The Sovereign LORD is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to go on the heights. For the director of music. On my stringed instruments.

Even in times when everything in life seems to go wrong, don’t stop trusting the Lord, because He is always your strength. And He will guide you out of that moment and bring you blessings in abundance!

Daily word 15 September 2014 – Mark 9:35-37

Daily encouraging word

Dear brothers and sisters,

Today I want to encourage you with the words from Mark 9:35-37 which says:

35 Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all.” 36 He took a little child and had him stand among them. Taking him in his arms, he said to them, 37 “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.”

Following Christ also means that the way we are should be different from the world. To follow Christ means that you need to be able to serve others and don’t expect only people to serve you. Also when we welcome people and help them, then we know that God will also welcome you! So don’t look how others can serve you, but how you can serve others! Amen!

Daily word 14 September 2014 – Collosians 2:9-10

Daily word for 14 September 2014

Dear brothers and sisters,

Today I want to encourage you with the words from Collosians 2:9-10 which says:

9 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, 10 and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority.

Always remember what Jesus did for us, and that by Him coming to earth to die for our sins, he made it able for us to befull in Christ. Know that in everything God has all power and authority, so trust only on Him!

Daily word 13 September 2013 – Galatians 5:1

Daily word for 13 September 2014

Dear brothers and sisters,

Today I want to encourage you with the words from Galatians 5:1 which says:

Freedom in Christ

1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

When God died at the cross, He did so for our sins! Through this beautiful act of Him we are set free. For this reason we should never allow ourselves to be put in slavery from any kind of burden or sin. Life you life free in Jesus Christ!

Daily word for 29 September 2014

Dear brothers and sisters,

Today I want to encourage you with the words from Proverbs 29:25 whichs says:

25 Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD is kept safe.

Never put your reliance on man, but always on God! If you to this then you will always be safe. Because with man you will never have that guarantee.

My view – Natural hair

My view on natural hair

God bless you all!

As I mentioned in my last ‘My view’ my wife is born in Ghana. As a black woman she has been confronted with a discussion that is still ongoing to this day: natural hair versus weave/wigs.

Going natural is not something that everyone just understands and accepts. Even for her taking the step to go natural with her hair took her some weeks of doing research on it and how she can take the best care of her natural hair. After that period she finally took the step and see did the ‘big chop’ (see part of natural hair journey: How I coil my TWA kinky hair ) which means that she cuts of her hair and losing the hair that has been straightened.

She is now really loving her natural hair (and I even more!), but she can’t wait until it has grown longer. She loves this length, but she knows that when it is longer she “rocks” it even more.

Now my view on natural hair:

I love it that my wife made the decision to go natural and no longer to straighten her hair and use weave and wigs. I love her natural hair and she looks even more beautiful now with her natural hair then she did before. But also I believe that God wants us to be natural. The first part on which I base this is a favorite Bible verse of mine: Genesis 1:27

27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and femalehe created them.

This verse already makes it very clear that God loves very much and knew exactly how He created each one of us. If people don’t like something about your appearance, then it is your problem, but never hide or change something on your body. God made every sort of hair in His image as well, he loves African hair just as much as the hair of any other race on this earth. So never feel that you have to wear a wig with European style hair, because God made every woman beautiful with her own hair, and as I mentioned earlier, my wife’s hair looks far more beautiful then any weave or wig she has worn.

In 1 Corinthians chapter 11 God also tells us that the beauty and the glory of a woman lies in her hair. God doesn’t want man to have long hair, but for a woman He gives glory in her long hair. My wife loves to have her natural hair grow longer, because God has put that desire in her. But also this chapter makes it clear that the glory is in HER hair, so not in synthetic hair or hair from someone else you bought!

God bless you for bringing my beautiful wife in my life (and my fantastic 3 children as well of course!) and giving her glory and beauty with her natural hair.

Bible study ‘Gospel of Mark’ – Chapter 11

The Gospel of Mark

Bible study ‘Gospel of Mark’ – Chapter 11

God bless you and thank your for reading this next Bible study on the Gospel of Mark. I ask you to first read the chapter in your Bible and pray that God will lead you through the text and this bible study. Thank you God for giving us your blessings and new teachings.

In this chapter Mark tells the following stories:

  • The triumphal entry
  • Jesus clears the temple
  • The withered fig tree
  • The authority of Jesus questioned

The triumphal entry

Jesus continues His journey to Jerusalem. Before entering Jerusalem He asks 2 of His disciples to go to the town of Bethany and look for a donkey that will be standing there on which nobody has every sat yet. The 2 disciples go there and as Jesus told them the donkey was there. This shows how everything in our life’s is already in Gods plan with our lives!

In the world we tend to want to get honor from others and we want to have the most expensive to look good! Jesus again shows that He didn’t came to be a worldly king, but that He is the Son of God and was there for us. The disciples put there mantles on the donkey before Jesus sat down on it, other people that were cheering and paying respect to Jesus before Him entering Jerusalem also through there mantles on the ground for Jesus to ride over with His donkey. With this entrance the prophecy of Isaiah came to pass! Also during His second coming He will come back but then on a more great way!

Jesus clears the temple

Jesus was again on the way with His disciples and was now hungry. He therefore went to a fig tree along the way to get a fruit. But when they came to the tree Jesus saw it had no fruits on it (because it wasn’t the season for it). For this Jesus told to the tree that this tree would never give fruit again.

Afterwards Jesus went to disciple to see a lot of people using the temple as a marketplace. Jesus really got angry, because they were using a place of prayer as a place to make profit. Never use your place and time that you have dedicated to God for anything else. God deserves the best of your time, your love, your offerings. The fig tree story above is applicable on this part of the story as people came to the temple to receive the fruits/blessings from God, but they were never nourished that way, because others were using that place as a marketplace to make a profit (and not always in an honest way!

The withered fig tree

On the way back from Jerusalem to Bethany Jesus and His disciples came across that same fig tree. And now it was totally withered from the ground up. The disciples were shocked and reminded what happened that morning.

Jesus explained them that when we pray God to help us, that we need not only pray, but need to it having faith that God has already given it to us! God wants us to have a faith without doubt. I ask God everyday to help me grow in this area and I know that God will bless me this way and make stronger in this area not let any doubt come in. God wants us to not look at what we see in our earthly circumstances. I for example know that God has already blessed me with a new job and will bless my families financial situation and give us in abundance. Also I know that God has blessed me to also do the work for Him!

But God also asks us to forgive everyone that we still hold a grudge against, because if we forgive them, then God will forgive us our sins. We cannot expect to be blessed by God if we cannot even forgive other people for what they have done to you!

The authority of Jesus questioned

The chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders saw everything that Jesus was doing and aksed Him on what authority He did all those things. Jesus asked them on which authority JBap did all he did. They did not want to admit that he did it on Gods authority, but also didn’t dare to say it was on his own authority. JBap was widely accepted as a prophet from God and they feared both reactions to give them an unwanted consequence so the did not answer this question from Jesus. For this reason Jesus (knowing that their intent was false and wicked) also told them that He would not answer them. God wants us to share the Good Word, but if people are only out to do us harm or ridicule them, then we are not by anyway obliged to answer there question. God will let us know through the Holy Spirit why people are asking certain questions (and if the intent is good or wicked).

God bless you all!
