Bible study on Acts of the Apostles – Chapter 1

Dear brothers and sisters,

Today I am starting the Bible study on the book of Acts of the Apostles which was written by Luke. In the 1st chapter of the book I will talk about the following:

  • Jesus taken up into Heaven
  • Matthias chosen to replace Judas

Jesus taken up into Heaven

Luke starts this Bible book telling about all that he wrote about in the Gospel of Luke on the ministry of Jesus. After Jesus rose from the dead, He stayed on earth for another 40 days. In this period He showed a lot of miracles, but also prepared His apostles for the time that He wouldn’t be here on earth.

He told them to wait in Jerusalem to receive the Holy Spirit. It is very beautiful that when Jesus was about to leave earth, He already made sure that we wouldn’t be without His guidance and protection. For this reason He gave us the Holy Spirit that guides us while we are here on earth until the period that Jesus will come back again. Know that you always have to ask the Holy Spirit for guidance in everything you do. Know that God did not leave us alone here, so never think that you have to do everything yourself.

Matthias chosen to replace Judas

When Jesus left us from the Mount of Olives, the apostles went back home to gather themselves and started praying. There they discussed on the Holy Spirit, but also how they would replace the vacant spot in their midst after Judas betrayed Jesus and killed himself. After this they selected Matthias to replace him.
